Scafell PikeSo we’re now on our way to Scafell Pike, having just kicked Ben Nevis’s butt! We started at 4pm as scheduled and completed the highest of the 3 peaks in 3hrs 54mins. I don’t think any of our legs have felt quite so painful but it’s a great feeling to already be a hour ahead of schedule. We met a guy up on the mountain who sponsored us there and then after telling him about Headcase Cancer Trust and Colin’s story. Thank you to all your support and to those who have sponsored us. If you still want to give to this great cause then its not too late. Go to http://www.justgiving.com/tonyanddanironman

They are well underway, three posts so far on:  http://headcase3peaks.blogspot.co.uk/

Just chillin in the back of the van. Nick has already got a nose bleed…. as you can probably see. Scotland here we come!

After about 5 hours of driving, we’ve crossed the boarder into Scotland. Traffic hasn’t been too bad and it’s safe to say that the scenery up here is much better than down south! Glasgow here we come!

So it’s the morning of the challenge. We’ve just enjoyed a hearty breakfast at the premier inn and are now on the road to Ben Nevis. If you haven’t yet seen the weather forecast, it could be an interesting climb up scafell pike early tomorrow morning with thunderstorms a strong possibility. We’re still aiming to start climbing Nevis at 4pm today. We’ll keep you posted 🙂

We need less than 427 quid to reach the target.

I think I’ve worked out a way to blog some videos for people to see while we do the challenge. The link will be:

And we should hopefully start blogging tomorrow 🙂

3 Peaks challenge commences.

So here it is then, tomorrow we’ll be setting off for Scotland… man this has come along quickly. Tomorrow morning we’ll be driving up to Glasgow to stay over night prior to starting the Three Peaks Challenge. Hopefully we’ll be able to get a decent nights sleep before setting off for Ben Nevis Saturday morning. We hope to start the challenge at about 4pm Saturday afternoon with the weather not looking too bad at the moment.

Training has been tough the last couple of weeks especially with this ridiculous heat and humidity. Fortunately myself and Nick were able to get out for a long walk one evening just outside of Hatfield. Neither of us realised that you don’t have to walk far before you hit some pretty amazing countryside.

Last blog

Unfortunately Nick has suffered a slight groin strain from training but we’re hoping and praying that this will resolve just in time…

Last week I also took the time to buy myself some new walking boots. When I had a look at my poor excuse for some walking boots, I knew this was a good excuse to get a new pair. Hopefully they should keep my feet and ankles fairly comfortable… although I don’t think any amount of specialist equipment is going to prepare our bodies for the challenge that stares us in the face. The morning after the challenge could be an interesting one.

We would all like to thank the people who have already sponsored us, both on the justgiving page and sponsorship forms. It’s going towards a great cause and any donation no matter how big or small is hugely appreciated. Not far from that £30,000 target now. Things like this really do draw people together and it’s been amazing to see the love and support of so many towards Colin and the work that the Headcase Cancer Trust is doing. Rest in peace mate, we hope we can do you proud this weekend.

480042_10151082027680708_247146425_nWhilst out on their weekly run around Hatfield, Paul and Nick suddenly came to the realisation that the challenge is now just over 2 weeks away! It’s definitely come around quicker than we thought! However, this must have spurred them on as they clocked their quickest time yet for 4 miles, at just under 30 minutes! That’s around 7m 30s a mile!

James has been back home in London for the last 2 weeks, so not too sure what training he’s up to at the moment. Daniel, it seems, has taken a break from training and been enjoying the sun a bit too much, if his red face and panda eyes are anything to go by!

Climbing has taken a bit of back-burner for Nick since that lovely hand injury a couple of weeks ago (thanks Paul for stealing the picture from Facebook!). Nick has actually been exercising most week nights (in addition to the weekly runs with Paul) for the last month, with the aim of doing some cardio work each evening. He has also been doing a lot of swimming to improve general fitness, having been swimming 1-1.5 km at least 2-3 times a week. He even managed to swim a 16 minute km just over a week ago!

So training is going well and we all can’t believe that the challenge is now only just over 2 weeks away! But we’re all excited and very much looking forward to it!

A massive congratulations to Tony and Dan for completing the Ironman challenge a couple of weeks ago. It really is a super-human feat and the training and effort they both put into completing it is remarkable. Respect to you both!

Thank you for your continued support for us and for Headcase Cancer Trust!

All quiet on the western front – We’re Back…

Ben Nevis, Headcase Cancer Trust, Scarfell, Snowden, Three Peaks

A week off for the Russell legs to recover, and for the supporters to regain use of their larynx’s. But the mission to raise funds for Headcase Cancer Trust is far from over. Now we turn our attentions to the second of the challenges, The Three Peaks Challenge. This is being attempted by Paul, Nick, James and Dan and they will run, hike or crawl to the peaks of the three highest mountains in Britain:  Snowden in Wales, Scarfell in England and Ben Nevis in Scotland – all within 24 hours. The difficulty of the challenge shouldn’t be underestimated, It is very easy to get lost, particularly when mountains need to be climbed in the dark or in poor weather

For your delight @IMHeadcase is now following @TheThreePeaks so latest updates on the challenge news will be retweeted, and so Editor returns seeking out the stories to bring you the latest news and continue to attempt to prise open your wallets … over to you Paul-

Photos 1“Training is now well underway for all the guys with the 3 peaks challenge just a few weeks away now.

Paul, Nick and James have been running regularly around the Hatfield and St.Albans area. Running about 4-5miles each time, fitness is gradually improving.

Nick and James have also been down at the universities, sports village climbing wall. Although the challenge itself won’t involve climbing quite like this, it’s been a great way to further improve general fitness. With the odd injury here and there, Nick still thinks its well worth it…

Dan has been training back down in Bournemouth, having returned home after the uni term. Dan has also been completing regular running routes. Unfortunately with a nagging ankle injury, training has been difficult. Lets hope it doesn’t cause too much trouble for the challenge itself.

Please keep supporting headcase cancer trust!

More updates to come”
